AUN introduces Japan’s traditional music to Lao students

(KPL) Japanese young musicians organised a seminar on Japanese traditional performance for students of the National School of Music and Dance School in Vientiane last Friday.

A dynamic group of young musicians has recently begun a great new adventure. Innovative and with a high level of artistry, their first project has already proven a tremendous success. It won’t be long before all come to know the name “AUN”.

The AUN is the brainchild of twin brothers Ryohei and Kohei Inoue, both virtuosos in their own right who share a long musical history.

As leading members of the legendary Japanese Taiko drum troupe ONDEKOZA and then with their versatile and highly acclaimed duo unit AUN, the brothers have toured the world.

They appeared four times at New York’s Carnegie Hall and received EMMY Awards with ONDEKOZA.

AUN’s performances are not only musically amazing, but also quite exciting and entertaining as they encompass today’s Rock and Roll, Ambient, and bass & Drum styles.

Over the past eight years as a duo unit Ryohei and Kohei have toured countries including the United States of America, India, Pakistan, Colombia, and Guatemala.

Recently the brothers came up with the idea of performing an orchestra made up exclusively of Wagakki (generic name for Japanese traditional music instruments such as Koto, Shakuhachi, and Shamisen).

This seminar is aimed to disseminate and exchange lessons on traditional music of Laos and Japan.
